‘Battle of the Breweries’ take over beer taps for bragging rights
FRANKENMUTH, Mich. – June 5, 2018 – Food trucks from nearby and far away – 20 in all – are gathering at the Frankenmuth River Place Shops every second Thursday from June through September for the “Funtown Chowdown Food Truck Festival.” A number of Michigan brewers, plus one from Alaska, will also be there, fighting for bragging rights at the inaugural “Battle of the Breweries.”
About 6,000 visitors attended the festival’s kickoff event on May 10, with attendance expected to increase during the upcoming summer dates, which are Thursday June 14, Thursday July 12, Thursday August 9, and Thursday Sept. 13. Event times are 3-9 p.m.
From barbecue to burritos, and Mediterranean to Asian, visitors can choose from a wide variety of dishes, including vegetarian and vegan, to sample and share. This family- and pet-friendly event features live music, a kids’ play zone, face painting, and outdoor games.
A beverage tent at the festival is also the scene of the “Battle of the Breweries,” featuring two different craft breweries on each date in a quest to find out whose beer gets the most votes. Contestants include Ellison Brewery & Spirits of East Lansing, Wolverine Brewing Co. of Ann Arbor, Grand Armory Brewing Co. of Grand Haven, Alaskan Brewing Co. of Juneau, Short’s Brewing Co. of Bellaire, and Founders Brewing Co. of Grand Rapids.
